Hiking Trails
Hiking trails traverse the 370 acres. The River Trail goes
alongside the river beginning at the south end of the play
fields, leading to a small cave in a bluff where turkey vultures
nest, and on to a sideless log bridge over a low ravine, then
back up the hiss to the entrance of the camp. This is a
difficult trail, about 3 miles long. The Loop Trail begins and
ends on Mound Ridge Road opposite the entrance to Mound Ridge.
This is a moderate trail, about 1.5 miles long. The Eleanor
Veach Memorial Trail goes through the woods connecting the road
near the north end of the Lodge with the area by the site
manager's house. Trees along the trail are identified by
clearly marked signs. This trail was built and named in 1990 in
dedication to the memory of Leroy Veach's wife Eleanor. It is a
moderate trail, about 0.7 mile long. |
